The extremely high resolution of 12.1 megapixels offers an additional handy function: A small edge area of the CCD chip is "switched off". The picture in the middle of the chip is now enlarged. This turns the 3x optical zoom into a 4.7x equivalent zoom - and the resolution remains at its high level of 5 megapixels. With VGA resolution, you can also achieve a gigantic zoom of up to 18.7x - bringing you close to the action and enabling you to capture even the tiniest details.
JUST FOLLOW THESE STEPS
In recording mode, push the zoom control in the direction . The zoom stops when the maximum optical zoom has been reached.
Release the zoom control briefly and push it again in the direction .
The camera now switches from optical to digital zoom, which allows you to set an even higher zoom factor.
Press the release button when you have reached the desired position.
Digital zooming generally results in a reduced picture quality. In picture sizes of 5 megapixels, digital zooming can, however, also be used with no negative effect on the picture quality. The area in which digital zooming can be used with no reduction in picture quality is shown in the display.
When the "Time display" function is switched on, digital zooming cannot be used.
